(PORT) BIRTHDAY
One of our particularly valued destinations, which we always enjoy visiting, is Hamburg. From Bremerhaven, this little trip is particularly suitable for the holidays of Ascension and Pentecost, as we sail there on the first weekend, then leave the boat in Hamburg for a week, and then sail home at Pentecost. We like to stop over night in Cuxhaven and Stade, and then spend a port day in Hamburg before we travel home by train, returning back to Hamburg the same way the following weekend. Sailing on the Elbe is a lot of fun, and the sheltered haul from Cuxhaven to Hamburg or vice versa is also suitable for less experienced guests who are not yet sure regarding their susceptibility to seasickness and want to get a taste of what sailing is like.

In 2018, this cruise was particularly suitable because the dates coincided with the Hamburg port's birthday which is every year celebrated with a great folk festival along the shores of river Elbe, many boats, performances on land and on the water et cetera.. However what was generally regarded as the celebration of the Port's birthday appeared to us quuite differently: This year our nice SNIFIX DRY turned 40 (!) and so we regarded the festivities at the harbor in Hamburg and the big fireworks display as a decent supporting program that the Senate of Hamburg had organized in SNIFIX's honor on her big birthday :-) . The whole thing was spiced up by formidable weather and even the QE 2 was there. With a little luck and skill, we even managed to watch the fireworks from the front row of the spectator boats - that's all we can do!
