About Us
"
‘We’ as hosts on this site are Susanne and Dirk. We live in Bremen and took over SNIFIX DRY in 2011 from her first owner and builder Fredi Heins. We chose Bremerhaven as the home port for SNIFIX DRY and sailed her on the North Sea and Baltic Sea until 2020. Our berth was in the fine Lloyd Marina, so we were quickly on the Weser through the sports boat lock and had a varied area for weekend cruises on our doorstep.
During a refit, SNIFIX was fitted with a furling mainsail (Furlerboom) and two electric halyard winches. Some may judge this as a break in style - but she is not a museum ship and should continue to be ‘kept in a species-appropriate manner’, i.e. sailed diligently, and these modernisations create important advantages, as they make her manageable even for a small crew. This means that we can now sail SNIFIX as a couple on long trips. Over the years, we have also developed a small circle of SNIFIX friends, with whom we go on short and longer trips with varying crews.

In 2021, we expanded our sailing area, took part in the FASTNET Race and then went on a beautiful Normandy cruise. Afterwards we wintered SNIFIX in Cherbourg so that we could also spend the following season there. This then turned into a huge and successful project with the ROUND BRITAIN and IRELAND 2022 regatta and some cruising in the Channel Islands followed by wintering in the charming St. Cast le Guildo in eastern Brittany, very close to St. Malo.

2023 was supposed to be more leisurely with trips back to the Channel Islands, the Cornish coast and along northern Brittany - but FASTNET was planned again in between. The latter worked fine, we successfully rounded the Rock again, but our cruising plans were affected by bad weather after the Fastnet Race, so the Cornish coast still has to wait. At the end of the 2023 season, we sailed SNIFIX back to Bremerhaven and gave her a lot of attention at home during the winter.

The new 2024 season began with our participation in NORDSEEWOCHE 2024 and RUND SKAGEN. A trip to the Stockholm archipelago is then planned for August and on the way back to Copenhagen.

And then? We'll find out - there are so many more great sailing destinations than we can ever travel to!
